Emergency aid is defined as the help given to a sick or injured person until full medical treatment is available. The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 require an employer to provide suitable first aid cover in the workplace. Equally importantly, prompt attention and treatment can define the course of recovery for the casualty.
Course Requirements
With a broad range of roles, the requirements for induction and mandatory healthcare training becomes very crucial. In addition, there is further requirement for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours which varies massively across healthcare. Many institutional bodies, including the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR), the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS), and the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) require members to undergo 250 hours of CPD every 5 years. Meanwhile the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) requires 35 CPD hours per year.
